This is an ongoing program in which we explore all aspects of traditional woodcarving from the most elementary to extremely complex. Projects can range from spoons and bowls to architectural carvings, reliefs, and sculptures.
10 X 56 Alaskan style snowshoes have been a very popular and traditional style with both the Athabaskan and white trappers and explorers. They are excellent snowshoes for breaking trail through the deepest snow, a world that would be unreachable otherwise.
Skin on Frame (SOF) is not only one of the oldest methods for building a boat, it is also one of the easiest. This class will use a Dave Gentry design to build his Shenandoah Whitehall 14’ rowboat.
In this class you will learn how to skin a fish and clean and prepare the skin for tanning. Several tanning methods will be discussed and a brief historical overview of the use of tanned fishskin will be presented.
