This class will give students an introduction to the process of steam bending wood. Steam bending is used to create strong and graceful curves for applications such as furniture, snowshoes, toboggans, and dog mushing sleds.

The class will cover:

  • wood selection and preparation,
  • soaking, boiling and steaming,
  • variations on the equipment required, and,
  • bending forms and drying jigs.

Everyone will get to try their hand at bending a couple of boards.

Maximum number of students: 12

Minimum number of students: 5

Age range: 16 to adult (ages 12 – 15 welcome with a co-learning adult also registered in the class)

Prerequisites:  none

Cost: $33 (members); $50 (non-members).
