Drawing from Nature for Youth – ages 8-18 (2 day course)

Instructor:  Somer Hahm

Dates of the class: Monday & Thursday, May 21 & 24, 2018

Time of the class: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

Our appreciation and awe of this beautiful earth grows when we observe the intricate workings of the natural world. Nature journaling is an excellent way to slow down and appreciate our surroundings. The natural curiosity of youth makes them excellent candidates for nature journaling. Please join me for 2 days of exploring nature, as we learn how fun it is to record our adventures in our sketchbooks.

While primarily a drawing course, there are no rules when it comes to nature journals, so we will also be doing:

Leaf and tree rubbings
Quick Sketches
Watercolor paintings with water color crayons
Poetry (if so inspired)
Pressed flowers
Nature stamp art: collect rocks, acorns, and other hard objects, then dip them in paint and use as stamps.
Lists of birds, flowers and insects we have observed.
Recording animal tracks seen and try to identify them.
Writing short stories from the perspective of trees, grass, and flowers.
