This is a project-based spinning class focused on: 1) color, 2) using the color wheel, 3) blending colors, and 4) creating a finished cowl that highlights the range of colors that you’ll create.
In this class we’ll demystify the color wheel so that you can easily use it as tool. We’ll focus on what’s called a “triad harmony” – using equally spaced colors on the color wheel to create really beautiful combinations that will work well in any project. We’ll also created “tints” and “shades” of the colors to create darks and lights and we will blend complementary colors to create lovely earthy tones to incorporate into your colorway.
After blending and spinning all of your different colors – 15 in total! – everyone will knit an adapted version of the “Inspira Cowl” in order to highlight the full range of your colorway.
Note: Students need a spinning wheel in good working condition, and a drum carder or hand cards. You will also need knitting needles. Calypso has a few spinning wheels and pairs of hand carders available for loan for local students. If you would like to borrow a spinning wheel and/or hand carders, please contact Susan Willsrud at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Susan will release an initial video detailing the blending and spinning technique used by November 7th. The materials kit will also
be available at this time. Materials kits can be picked up at The Folk School cabin.
Participants will have a couple of weeks to practice the technique. Susan will supplement the technique video with live Zoom follow up meetings on Sunday, November 14 at 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm and Sunday, November 21 at 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
