Spring Break: Build a Bow Saw! (3 day class – ages 12 and up)

Instructor:  John Manthei

Dates of the class: Wednesday – Friday, March 14 – 16, 2018

Time of the class: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm each day

A bow saw is a must have tool for almost everyone especially if you enjoy camping or harvesting wood for other projects. The saw we will be making breaks down into a small bundle that easily fits in a back pack. The frame will be made out of Alaska birch. We will finish our saws with a mixture of birch tar and linseed oil. Replacement blades are available at most hardware or building supply stores.

We will be using hand saws and band saw, chisels, drill and drill press, planes and spoke shaves, files, rasps and sand paper. We will be learning mortise and tennon joinery, champhoring and sawing to a line. After our saws are completed we will learn several sawing techniques and some safety pointers.

This is a satisfying and rewarding project that yields a tool you will use for the rest of your life.
