Weaving Workshop8 Session Class

Instructor:  Bonni Brooks

Dates of the class: Tuesdays & Thursdays, January 31 – February 28, 2023 (no class February 7th)

Time of the class: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm each session

Location: Pioneer Park - Cabin 66 (Click on the link for accessibility information.)

This project-based workshop focuses on creating beautiful and useful home textiles – rugs, table runners, place mats, napkins, tea towels, or bread bags. You will start weaving right away, working on multi-shaft floor and table looms. Throughout the process, we will look at each other’s projects and compare notes on how the design, choice of fiber, and choice of weaving equipment come together to create beautiful woven cloth.

Beginners are welcome in this workshop. As soon as you register, the instructor will contact you to select a project appropriate to your skills, the kind of weaving experience you hope for, and the amount of time you’re able to invest in working on your project.

Weaving WorkshopWe will have six looms available, with the looms and projects assigned by the instructor on a first-come, first-served basis:

  • Large 8 harness floor loom – wool or rag rug
  • Smaller 8 harness floor loom – wool rug
  • Smaller 4 harness floor loom – mid-weight project such as place mats or a light rug
  • Smaller 4 harness loom, convertible to either floor or table – lighter textile such as tea towel, bread bag, or table runner
  • Smaller 4 harness table loom – lighter textile such as tea towel, bread bag, or table runner
  • Large rigid heddle loom – lighter textile with potential to use two heddles for patterning

If time allows, we’ll work together to warp one of the looms in the last two sessions of the workshop. If we need additional weaving time and use the last two sessions for that purpose, a free warping workshop will be scheduled in March.
