Fairbanks Fiber Festival Class

Instructor: Bonni Brooks

Dates of the class: Materials kits will be available for pick up on Wednesday October 28th, 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm, and Saturday, October 31st, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Materials kits can be picked up at The Folk School cabin.

Live Zoom workshop will be on Wednesday, November 4th, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

Using the materials in the free kit, learn to weave a simple belt or tie using your own unique color choices and design.  Workshop participants will learn how to tie their warp onto a box, how to weave a section and then how to advance the warp to continue weaving a longer piece.  We’ll discuss changing colors and creating patterns and will also experiment with weaving in fabric, charms, and even treasures found in the woods.  By the end of the session, workshop participants will know how to re-use the key components of their loom to create future projects.

This workshop is great for all ages and no prior experience is required.  Kits are available with heavier, easier to handle yarn for younger kids.  Weaving is fun and interesting and these simple box looms are a wonderful alternative to the card weaving or pin looms often used in art classes.
