General:
- The facilitator is in charge. Their job is to make sure everyone is being safe with themselves, our tools, and our shop. These folks are volunteers with many talents and can help you find things, answer questions and maybe even offer advice but they cannot be seen as instructors.
- Before you gear up for a project you’ll need to run your ideas by the facilitator in order to avoid a conflict.
- While all ages are welcome at open shop, anyone under the age of 15 must come to open shop with an adult co-learner. No more than 2 youth per 1 adult co-learner. Adults provide the coaching and guidance necessary for youth to focus on their projects and work safely. Facilitators can not provide the discipline and undivided attention often necessary to help youth carry out their plans.
Etiquette:
- Clean up after yourself- and do a little extra just to be nice J
- When you leave the building, you must take your project with you. We do not have room to accommodate storing projects.
- Project cannot be so large that it precludes others from using the space. Share the space with others- be considerate
Tools:
- If you haven’t been checked out on a tool, you can’t use it. This could be as simple as knowing where it lives.
- Initially we will not be allowing the use of power tools with the exception of drills and the drill press. We are particularly concerned about safty, noise and excessive dust.
- If you ding a tool, put $1 in the donation can.
- With sharp cutting tools we have a one tool out at a time rule. When a tool is supplied with a sheath, use it.
- If you damage a tool beyond repair, replace it.
- Eye and ear protection must be used when necessary. (The Folk School will have ear plugs and safety glasses available.)
